Doncaster has excellent higher and further education resources, with establishments such as Doncaster College and Doncaster Education City providing access to thousands of courses. The Borough is also less than an hour away from specialist universities such as Leeds, Sheffield and Hull.
Many of Doncaster’s investors have joined up with nearby universities to take advantage of the fantastic research facilities available in sports science, IT, product development, engineering and construction, and many more. In addition, these educational establishments have produced a pool of high calibre graduates from their long established business and law schools.
Doncaster also has the best performing primary schools in South Yorkshire according to the latest National Primary School League Table results. The Borough is ranked 81st out of a total of 150 Local Education Authorities for primary schools achieving the national level 4 benchmark at Key Stage 2 in English, maths and science - outperforming the nearest neighbouring authority by over 50 league places.

Doncaster College
Doncaster College is one of the largest colleges of its type in the UK, offering over 1,100 courses, with 650 distinct qualifications. The college provides progression opportunities to a wide audience from basic education to doctorate programmes. Currently it has more than 28,000 students from Doncaster, the rest of Great Britain and many other countries besides.The college provides education at three main centres in Doncaster – The Hub, High Melton and Bessacarr - and also delivers at another 35 local centres located in the community, 20 of which are in schools.
As a consequence of its involvement with local learning partnerships, representation in a range of influential organisations, and work with a number of local schools, the college provides an extensive range of local adult learning programmes. This has helped Doncaster College to be included in the top 15% of further education colleges by size alone, with 72% of its enrolments being from Doncaster postcodes.
In addition to this, the college’s work with a number of universities means that its range of higher education courses is the 13th largest of colleges of this kind. It is also developing schemes with the Open University for the early delivery of foundation degrees.
In partnership with employers, the college delivers effective distance learning on both its premises.
The college boasts a suite of bespoke courses tailored to each employer’s needs. It is also the largest provider in the area of the Government’s New Deal programme and a centre of excellence for areas such as quarrying, road surfacing and human resource development.
Doncaster Education City (DEC)
Doncaster Education City is designed to meet the education and training needs of the people of Doncaster. A partnership of educators and trainers brings together higher and further education, to create a network of centres of excellence across the Borough.
DEC aims to benefit the whole community by providing an integrated approach to learning. Education is available to all, including those who may have been discouraged from learning in the past. Using the latest technology, individuals are able to take part in learning at a time, place and pace to suit them. DEC uses state-of-the-art learning methods and materials to make education exciting and fun. This is to encourage more people into education in Doncaster, in order to gain better skills and qualifications, and therefore more opportunities. Businesses will, in turn, benefit from having a more skilled and better-trained workforce.
