Omega Unveils New State of the Art Showroom
Doncaster based business Omega PLC has officially unveiled its new showroom representing the culmination of a £1m investment at the Thorne facility.
Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, was greeted by Sir Bob Murray CBE, Chairman of Omega to officially open the newly completed Sheraton trade showroom.
Investment at the site has been ongoing since the facility opened and now sees the business occupying a 16 acre site including factory space of around 315,000 square feet and employing 220 staff.
Mayor Davies said: “At a time when business growth has become a precious commodity it is gratifying to see a Doncaster company thriving and expanding.”
“It is equally gratifying that Omega has been able to achieve this in the notoriously competitive manufacturing sector despite the severe economic downturn.”
Sir Bob welcomed the Mayor by saying:”We are very proud to distribute our products across the UK and beyond from our base in Thorne.”
“We have never doubted our decision to be located in Thorne and we are looking forward to expanding the site in years to come.”
“I want to pay tribute to our workforce who are ‘second to none’ “he added.
“We have been lobbied on many occasions to relocate but we feel our decision to operate from one site in Thorne is the right one and we know how important the manufacturing industry is to this region.”
Established in 1992, Omega designs, manufactures and markets high quality kitchen furniture. The brand is sold through a national network of specialist kitchen outlets, the majority of which are independent retailers.
Doncaster was originally chosen as the best location for the business due to the excellent transport links, first class people and workforce and the positive attitude displayed by everyone including Doncaster Council towards the project.
Omega has plans to expand further by creating additional manufacturing space thus creating further jobs for Doncaster, which the Invest in Doncaster team will continue to provide help and support with.
