The Earl of Scarbrough, a former pupil of Doncaster’s Hill House School, opened the school’s new Sixth Form Centre in October.

The Earl was a pupil together with his younger brother Thomas and sister Rosie in the early ‘70s, when his mother Lady Scarbrough, was one of the first school governors.

He toured the school’s new site – in the former RAF Finningley Officer’s Quarters – before meeting Sixth Form pupils and unveiling a commemorative plaque at the £1million centre.

The Earl also met pupils who have been fundraising for Safe@LAST, the South Yorkshire charity for disadvantaged young people, of which he is a patron.

The centre is an attractive three-storey base set against a wooded area and tennis courts, and with dedicated car parking. Designed to fit with the traditional design of the school’s main building, it has an impressive second-floor balcony overlooking the sports pitches.

The Sixth Formers have their own seminar rooms, a spacious open-plan common room, full wi-fi access, cafe-diner and career room.

The contract for building the Centre was awarded to R J Cadman Construction of Flixborough.

Cadmans was also commissioned to renovate the former RAF Finningley Officers’ Quarters when it was purchased by Hill House for the school’s new site in 2007.
