Tech Challenge scares the birds
In this year’s Technology Challenge, Robin Hood Airport worked with Ridgewood School to design and make a model of a bird ‘scarer’ to be used on their runway.
The scarer had to be portable, environmentally friendly and must not give off any smoke etc that may cause a hazard for incoming / outbound planes.
Business and Education South Yorkshire (BESY), as always, organised an excellent event across Doncaster, with many other businesses and schools involved.
The judges for the airport’s project included Clare Wilson, Environment Manager and Mark Pudwell, from the Fire Station, both from the Airport. Plus Ian Guy, Invest in Doncaster and Anne Garside, Doncaster Chamber.
Judging was extremely difficult as all the teams had put a lot of thought into their designs and come up with very different and innovative ideas. For such young children their presentation skills were also excellent.
The winners on the day were WSBWSB (we scare birds we save birds) of Copley Junior School and there were very close runners up from Stone Hill School.
The schools that participated were Ridgewood School (Yr 6), Richmond Hill Primary School, Copley Junior School, Barnburgh Primary School, Rosedale Primary School and Stone Hill School.
