Red Friday at Abenaki

Friday 20th of November will see the Abenaki at Hallgate, Doncaster, organise a fundraising night in aid of the Coldstream Guards who are currently serving in Afghanistan.

The evening will run from 8pm and the venue will see live acts performing and recording an album which will be sold to raise money for the Coldstream Guards Afghanistan Appeal. Each of the performers will donate two of their own original songs, plus one pre recorded track for the album which will be then pressed and packaged for sale in the shops before Christmas.

Organiser Annette Ramsay said,“We’ve been doing a live acoustic night at Abenaki for some time and when I heard about the fundraising campaign it started me thinking; and it’s all snowballed from there. We’ve got a massive amount of support for the event from local businesses in the music/CD production industry and sponsorship from Invest in Doncaster to cover the costs - so all the money we raise on the night and from the CD sales will go right to where it’s needed and isn’t lost in production costs or administration.”

Annette was so inspired by the stories from the Coldstream Guards she has not only pulled this whole event together but has also penned lyrics to a new song which will be recorded “Band Aid” style by all the performers for inclusion on the CD.

Major Anthony Liddell – Coldstream Guards, Officer Commanding Rear Party, said,
“I am absolutely delighted and humbled by this tremendous demonstration of support for the Battalion, while our soldiers are serving out in Afghanistan. I have no doubt whatsoever that this event will be an enormous success, and my sincere thanks go to the organisers behind this fantastic initiative.”

“All funds will be used to assist the families of those members of the Battalion who are Killed In Action, to support those injured on operations and their families, to support the families of those currently deployed, and to support our soldiers when they return from Afghanistan by facilitating their transition to everyday life again.”

Entry to the event is free but there will be fundraising activities including the sale of The Coldstream Guards wristbands and a battack machine for those who feel energetic!
