Network Rail starts Doncaster upgrade

Network Rail has started work on upgrading the East Coast Main Line at Doncaster. The company plan to construct an elevated railway to take slow freight trains over the Main Line at the Shaftholme Junction, near Doncaster, to reduce congestion.

Network Rail is currently undertaking environmental surveys at the site. Once initial investigations have been completed the designs will be put out to full public consultation.

Richard Lungmuss, Route Director, said: "Doncaster sits at the heart of this busy line, so passengers will see real benefits in terms of more frequent trains and reduced delays."
