The Bishop of Doncaster, Rt Revd Cyril Ashton, joined children at Hill House School, Doncaster, to scale the highest climbing wall in the UK in aid of Children in  Need.

With Bishop Ashton’s help the 400-pupil school raised £3,000 for the cause on the mobile wall, plus a sponsored inter-house singing contest.

Sportingly agreeing to take part, Bishop Ashton said: “This is the first time I’ve been challenged to try a climbing wall, but I’m very happy to put my best foot forward for Children in Need.”

The school also invited pupils from two local special needs schools to take part, and they enjoyed the challenge.

Organiser Michelle Lee, the school’s charities co-ordinator, said: “This is a great cause – something our children have really taken to their hearts.”

In 2008 Hill House staff and children raised over £2,000 with a sponsored chance to throw cold custard over volunteer staff on Children in Need Day and over the last academic year Hill House raised a total of £6,500 for charity.

HillHouse Schoolrecently greeted its first senior Royal visitor, HRH the Duke of Kent. The Duke toured the school and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
